Professor Zingoni’s Book Launched

Professor Alphose Zingoni’s book, Vibration Analysis & Structural Dynamics for Civil Engineers (ISBN 978-0-415-52256-4), published by CRC Press (Taylor & Francis UK), was formally launched in the New Engineering Building on the Upper Campus of UCT on 15 April 2015. The ceremony was attended by 120 guests from the UCT community and local industry. Speakers included: Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Francis Petersen, who highlighted Professor Zingoni’s achievement in the broader context of scholarship at UCT; Prof. Zingoni, who explained why he had written the book and for what audience; Mr. Trueman Goba (Chairman of Hatch Goba; Past President of ECSA and SAICE), who thanked Prof. Zingoni for the important initiatives he had brought into South African industry; Dr. Gansen Pillay (Deputy CEO of the National Research Foundation), who acknowledged Prof. Zingoni’s valuable contributions while serving on the Executive Evaluation Committee of the NRF; and Acting EBE Dean Prof. Barry Downing, who gave the Vote of Thanks. Ms Gwenda Thomas, Executive Director of UCT Libraries, received a copy of the book on behalf of the Library.
